ANAHEIM, Calif. — Rays LHP Matt Moore (Tommy John surgery) is scheduled to begin his minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday with Class A Charlotte.
Moore will begin the 30-day assignment with three innings or 50 pitches. He could get six starts in the 30 days, which would put him on pace to return to the Rays in early July.
“If you go by spring training, though, starters get five or six starts,” manager Kevin Cash said. “But coming off an injury, I would imagine it could be a little different.”
Moore’s return should be a big lift to a pitching staff that is currently without three of its five starters — RHP Alex Cobb (Tommy John surgery), LHP Drew Smyly (torn labrum) and Moore.
