ST. PETERSBURG — Rays 1B James Loney received a one-game suspension and was fined Tuesday for bumping home plate umpire Paul Nauert after being ejected Saturday in Oakland. Loney has appealed the suspension.
“Might as well, right? I guess, just to see,” Loney said.
Loney is eligible to play until the appeal his heard or until he drops the appeal.
“We don’t want to play any games short. He’s one of our key players in all this. We don’t want to not have him around,” manager Kevin Cash said.
“I have no idea what the decision, what they’ll come up with, but one (game) is better than anything else.
