Rays notes: Jennings could miss 8 weeks after knee procedure

ST. PETERSBURG — Arthroscopic surgery Wednesday on the left knee of Rays OF Desmond Jennings revealed inflammation of the plica band that surrounds the knee cap.

The inflammation caused the band to compress whenever Jennings tried to straighten his leg, causing the pain that placed him on the disabled list April 26 with bursitis.

Steven Singleton, a knee specialist who works with the U.S. Ski team, performed the surgery in Vail, Colorado, and removed the band.

It could be as long as eight weeks before Jennings returns.

“I’m happy for Dez. I think we’re all happy for Dez,” manager Kevin Cash said.
