Rays Notes: 'It was time' to trade pitching for more bats

PORT CHARLOTTE — With Matt Moore throwing a round of live batting practice Tuesday morning on Field 4, Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg walked over to a group of reporters and cameramen and stated the obvious: “It’s another beautiful day in paradise.”

Who would argue?

The Rays wrapped up their final workout before today’s start to the exhibition season on a picture-postcard day at Charlotte Sports Park, a day for squinting into the bright sun toward what any owner of a Major League Baseball team would hope is a bright season.

Sternberg is no different.

“I’d like to use last year as a baseline, if we could, and improve on it,” he said.
