ST. PETERSBURG — It took a while, but the Rays finally were able to trade LF/DH David DeJesus, sending him to the Angels on Tuesday for minor-league RHP Eduar Lopez.
The move clears at-bats for DH John Jaso and OF Desmond Jennings, who is expected back in mid-August, and also saves the team $3 million on the remainder of DeJesus’ contract, which includes a team option for 2016.
The Rays will fill the roster spot today with either a position player or a relief pitcher for this afternoon’s game with the Tigers and recall OF Grady Sizemore on Friday, when he is eligible to be recalled.
