Rays notes: Bellatti shines during brief stint

MINNEAPOLIS — Although RHP Andrew Bellatti wasn’t with the Tampa Bay Rays for very long in his first major-league stint, he made quite an impression.

The 23-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Durham after Saturday’s 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins and took the news in stride after striking out four and yielding two hits during his 2 2⁄3 innings of shutout relief against Minnesota.

“I understand my role right now, with all the options, and I know there’s a possibility I could be up and down 10 or 12 times this year,’’ said Bellatti, who was optioned to make room for IF Nick Franklin, who completed his rehab from an oblique strain that has sidelined him all season.
