ST. PETERSBURG — A lefty started Saturday night for the Blue Jays, and you know what that means: Tim Beckham received a rare start at shortstop.
It was only the seventh game Beckham has played this season and only the sixth which he has started. He entered the game on a 2-for-17 slide and with only three hits this season — all singles.
“What we’re asking of him is challenging,” manager Kevin Cash said. “It’s very tough for him to maintain rhythm at the plate and timing, which is big. But at the same time, that’s kind of the role.
