Rays Notes: Arencibia happy to return to big leagues

ST. PETERSBURG — C/1B J.P. Arencibia homered on the first pitch he saw as a big leaguer, a two-run shot off former Ray James Shields on Aug. 7, 2010, in Toronto. He homered again that day as part of a 4-for-5, three-RBI, three-run day.

“I think I set the bar too high,” Arencibia said.

Arencibia, who hit 74 home runs over five big league seasons, is back in the big leagues, having joined the Rays on Wednesday after C Curt Casali was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

Arencibia played last season with the Rangers then signed a minor league contract with the Orioles.
