Rays Notes: Archer takes game intensity to cage

PORT CHARLOTTE — RHP Chris Archer was only six pitches into his fourth start of the spring Saturday when a downpour forced the Rays to call off their game against the Orioles at Charlotte Sports Park.

The rainout, the Rays’ first of the spring, forced Archer to finish his 90-pitch workout in the batting cages, where Steven Souza Jr. and a few coaches stood in as would-be batters.

“The circumstances obviously weren’t ideal, but we made the most of it,” Archer said. “I threw with (the same) intensity I would have in the game. And I pretty much carried over what I did in the game to the cage.
