PORT CHARLOTTE — RHP Matt Andriese, scheduled to start this afternoon during the Rays’ split-squad game against the Blue Jays in Dunedin, was scratched because of left abdominal tightness.
Manager Kevin Cash said Andriese has been “managing it” for several days.
“Not overly concerned with Matt, but at this point in spring, we want to be smart with it,” Cash said. “So we’ll get him off the mound in a bullpen-type setting before we pitch him in a game.”
Andriese is being stretched out as a starter but is in competition for a spot in the bullpen.
