ST. PETERSBURG -- The Tampa Bay Rays had Chris Archer on the mound Wednesday against one of the teams they are chasing for a Wild Card spot.
Big game?
“It’s big,” manager Kevin Cash said before the game. “They’re all big games now. Good for us, we got Archer going. We’ll take our chances every time with him on the mound.”
But as the Rays have done repeatedly this month, they failed to take advantage of the moment, losing 5-3 in front of 9,205 at Tropicana Field.
The Rays began the night 2 1/2 games out of the second Wild Card start.
