ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Orioles on Saturday at Tropicana Field.
In his first career start, Ryne Stanek pitched 1u2154 scoreless innings for Tampa Bay, retiring all five batters he faced. His fastball sitting in the 97 to 99 mph range, he struck out three. Since his callup a little more than a year ago, he had pitched 25 innings as a reliever.
In relief of Stanek, Anthony Banda pitched 6u2153 innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out seven.
The Rays were in command from the beginning, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI triple by Joey Wendle and an RBI triple by Wilson Ramos.
