NEW YORK — The Rays were looking for something to spark their once-again stagnant offense, and it came in somewhat unexpected ways in a 6-1 win over the Yankees on Wednesday.
Rookie INF/OF Brandon Lowe, who didn't have a hit in his first 19 big-league at-bats, rapped two, driving in the first and sixth runs.
"It was starting to get pretty frustrating, I can't lie,'' Lowe said. "Anytime you can drive in runs as you're getting hits is always going to add to how great that feeling really is.''
RF Mallex Smith, usually known for his flash and dash, flexed some muscle, lacing a two-run homer off the façade of the second deck in right as part of a three-hit night.
