ST. PETERSBURG — Rays infielder Yandy Diaz could return from the injured list as soon as Sunday after he tested his injured left hand by playing in extended spring training action Saturday in Port Charlotte.
“Diaz went well,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “He had four or five at-bats. I know he had a home run. He’s close. We’ll check with him tonight and tomorrow and see how he’s doing. But he had his at-bats and got a full day of ground-ball work, and all that stuff. (Sunday) is possible.”
Diaz hasn’t played since he was hit on his left hand by a pitch from Yankees right-hander Chance Adams on May 19.
