Rays designate Arcia for assignment

ST. PETERSBURG -- Oswaldo Arcia was designated for assignment on Friday, the Rays announced prior to their game against the Rangers. Arcia was rehabbing from a right elbow strain, and he played nine games with Class A Advanced Charlotte.

Arcia hit .259 with Tampa Bay this season, with two home runs and seven RBIs. The Rays acquired him on June 24 after he was designated for assignment by the Twins the week prior. In his rehab assignment, Arcia was hitting .286 with three home runs and a triple.

Tampa Bay has a crowded outfield with Steven Souza Jr.
