ST. PETERSBURG — Even with the distraction of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Stanley Cup exploits retreating in the rearview mirror, attendance at Tampa Bay Rays games remains in the doldrums.
At the halfway point of the 2015 season, the Rays are averaging about 14,500 fans for homes games, roughly 2,400 fewer than at this stage last year.
Attendance rose slightly after the NHL playoffs concluded, yet the Rays remain on track for the lowest crowd numbers since their days as the Devil Rays and are headed for a fourth straight year as the worst supported team in Major League Baseball.
