A tongue-in-cheek promotion by the Tampa Bay Rays’ minor-league affiliate making fun of the New York Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez appears to have hit a sour note.
The Charlotte Stone Crabs had been advertising tonight’s game against the Tampa Yankees as “A-Rod Juice Box Night.” The first 500 fans were going to receive juice boxes with a sticker that read “The Sports Drink 100% Juiced. Side Affects include: tainted records, inflated ego, omission from the Hall of Fame, and more!”
According to the team’s website, however, the promotion has been dropped. The team hasn’t explained why.
