On a night where bad process was rewarded with good results, it was fitting that the final play of the game finally reward some good process with a good result.
With the Rays clinging onto a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, Alex Gordon chopped one right into the teeth of the shift. However, Adeiny Hechavarria bobbled the ball, leading Alex Gordon to dive headfirst into first base. Hech got the ball out in time, though, and the Rays grabbed their 17th win of the season. Good process (shift) conquers bad process (diving headfirst into first).
