With Brian Anderson off, Andy Freed joined DeWayne Staats and Doug Waechter in the booth. They got to witness an old fashioned pitching duel for Memorial Day between Chris Archer and Trevor Cahill and lots of relievers, with the Rays finally knocking off the A’s in 13 innings. Remarkably, the two teams finished the marathon game in under four hours.
With two outs in the top of the third, DeWayne Staats said, “Cahill has retired eight in a row,” meaning the first eight. On the very next pitch, Jesus Sucre blooped one into shallow right-center.
