Pinellas County Commission delays stadium funding vote again, citing anger at the Rays

The Pinellas County Commission has delayed its vote on $312.5 million in bonds to help fund the new Rays stadium to December 17, expressing extensive anger at both the Tampa Bay Rays and owner Stuart Sternberg.

By delaying the vote once again, the Commission will provide another month of research for its voting body — including the two new members sworn in earlier this week — but the animus for the delay appeared to be centered on the Tampa Bay Rays recent behavior.

In the hours preceding the Commission meeting, the Rays sent what has been described as a warning letter claiming the team had “suspended work on the entire project” and not just the new stadium.
