NEW YORK -- Over the first eight innings Friday night at Citi Field, the Rays used six pitchers. The Mets used one: Major League ERA leader Jacob deGrom.
The six Rays matched one deGrom, but in the ninth inning, Jose Bautista's two-out grand slam off Chaz Roe gave the Mets a 5-1 win over Tampa Bay. Roe intentionally walked Brandon Nimmo with two outs to load the bases, and Bautista crushed the first pitch over the left-field fence to end it.
The Rays had just four hits off deGrom, but one of them was a Willy Adames home run in the fifth inning.
