Offense lets Archer down as Rays lose to Boston

ST. PETERSBURG -- Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said he had an easy day off Monday despite the three-game slide that led into the day.

The reason: Chris Archer was on the mound Tuesday when his team resumed play.

In town were the AL East-leading Boston Red Sox and their dangerous lineup.

“We know they’re good,” Cash said. “We’re going to have to pitch well this series.”

Archer did his part, but the Rays offense that went into a funk once they returned to Tropicana Field remained there in a 1-0 loss in front of 14,307.
