PORT CHARLOTTE — RHP Jake Odorizzi faces the Nationals this afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park as the Rays open their Grapefruit League schedule.
Odorizzi is not working on a new pitch, like he did in 2014 when he introduced a change-up/splitter in an attempt to make the Opening Day lineup, or trying to make another pitch more major league-ready.
“Nothing crazy this year,” he said. “It’s just a get ready for the year, get through it healthy and then be ready to go once April rolls around. So a kind of more laid-back approach for me this spring as opposed to putting the work in to work on a new pitch.
