Right-hander J.J. Goss, taken No. 36 overall in Monday’s draft, said he plans to sign with the Rays and forgo a years-long commitment to Texas A&M.
Goss, who was 11-2, 0.64 ERA at Cypress Ranch High School near Houston, said today that the opportunity to start his pro career was too tempting to pass up. The assigned value to his draft slot is $2,045,400; it’s not yet known how much he will get from the Rays. He committed to the Aggies as a sophomore.
"It’s definitely a decision that’s going to change my life,'' he said Tuesday on a conference call with Tampa Bay media.
