Seven-time All-Star Nelson Cruz has been named recipient of the 2021 Roberto Clemente Award, Major League Baseball’s most prestigious individual player honor, and is being recognized for his generosity and humanitarian efforts in his home Club markets and his hometown in the Dominican Republic.
Cruz is the 50th winner of this prestigious honor, and will officially receive the Roberto Clemente Award from Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. and the Clemente family at a pregame press conference before tonight’s Game Two of the World Series.
He has made meaningful contributions to his hometown (Las Matas de Santa Cruz) in the following ways:
- Helped feed more than 700 families and provided financial support to individuals not able to work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
