It looks like the Tampa Bay Rays might be interested in adding Billy Butler to the list of right-handed hitters they may look to sign, according to Tampa Bay Times Marc Topkin.
The 30-year-old has spent nine seasons in the league and recently has shown signs of improvement. Despite being a league-average overall hitter, batting .284, Butler played well in his brief stint at the end of 2016 with the New York Yankees (career 14.8 percent walk rate, 28.9 percent line-drive rate).
If the Rays plan to pick up Butler as a designated hitter, they would likely need to see a significant bump up in his numbers at the plate.
