Marc Topkin’s takeaways from Rays doubleheader split with Orioles:
* Letting rookie Brendan McKay pitch through a two-on, no-out jam in the fifth inning of the opener with a 1-0 lead paid off. McKay proved to himself he could do it, and the Rays were impressed with how he did it. All have confidence he can do it again.
* Nate Lowe is making an impressive case to stick around. Quiet in Saturday’s opener after a four-hit Friday, Lowe launched two homers in the nightcap, giving him five in six games. The Rays may have to decide at some point between him and Ji-Man Choi.
