Hard-throwing lefty Jose Alvarado rejoins the Rays Tuesday with a chance to put a good finish on what has been something of a lost season.
Austin Pruitt, who worked four solid innings and got the W in Monday’s 10-4 victory over the Padres, was optioned back to Triple-A, ending his eighth stint of the season with the Rays.
Alvarado has been on the injured list since July 7 with an oblique strain.
That occurred in his fourth game back after rejoining the team following a two-month absence for personal reasons that he said involved attending to the health of his mother in Venezuela.
