Heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rays held a 3-0 advantage over the Detroit Tigers. Kevin Cash turned to Chaz Roe with the hopes that he’d be able to record the final three outs and save the rest of the bullpen.
Roe was not able to do this, and it quickly became apparent he had no clue as to where his wiffle ball slider would end up. After a strikeout to open the inning, Roe sandwiched an infield single between two hit batters to load the bases. Kevin Cash had seen enough and wanted his high octane southpaw, Jose Alvarado, to shut down the Tigers.
