Just when the Tampa Bay Rays bullpen was finally looking spent, enter Jake Faria.
Coming into last night’s contest against the Detroit Tigers, Faria’s 2018 campaign had been somewhat of a disaster. His control had been erratic and he was failing to pitch deep into ballgames. Like most Rays pitchers not named Snell, his longest start of the season had been six innings, and over his five starts leading into the game, Faria had been averaging just over four innings.
That was then.
Faria delivered last night — and then some — just when the Rays needed it most, holding the Tigers offense (second in the AL Central but missing Miguel Cabrera) scoreless over eight innings of work.
