DETROIT – Sometimes you win when your best, highest paid and most prominent players do their expected part, as was the case Wednesday, when starter Charlie Morton led the way as the Rays snapped a four-game losing streak.
And sometimes you win when a couple of your fringe guys step up.
Like Thursday, when catcher Travis d’Arnaud hit two homers, Jalen Beeks pitched four-plus shutout innings, and Chaz Roe got arguably the biggest out, as the Rays beat the Tigers 6-1.
The Rays won another series, improved to 37-23 overall and moved, at least until the Yankees play tonight, back within one game of first place as they head to Boston for a busy weekend.
