ST. PETERSBURG -- One pitch, a fastball that was supposed to be down and in but got too much of the plate and sailed more than 400 feet to right-center field with the bases-loaded, was the ball game.
It happened in the third inning Saturday night at Tropicana Field, plenty of time for a team to mount a comeback.
But with the current state of Tampa Bay’s offense, and with Baltimore’s Miguel Gonzalez having his typical way with the Rays, the grand slam by Chris Davis was enough for the Orioles to cruise to a 5-1 victory in front of 24,327, many of whom were on hand to see country music star Kacey Musgraves, who would later admit on stage that she is friends with Davis.
