Rays
ST. PETERSBURG — Everyone has a Cinderella story, Steve Geltz said. A tale of how they ended up in the big leagues, of how this led to that and that led to this. For Geltz, his “this” is a spot in the Rays’ bullpen.
Not bad for a kid who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Angels to basically save innings and reduce the wear and tear on the high-end pitching prospects in the organization.
Geltz later came to learn that he was an “arm protector,” the term the organization used to describe him and others signed for the same reason.
