Tampa Bay called up Ryan Garton from Triple-A Durham and sent down shortstop Tim Beckham prior to the club's game against the Marlins on Wednesday. To make room for Garton, Jake Goebbert was taken off the 40-man roster.
Garton, a Clearwater, Fla., native, posted a 2.38 ERA in 22 2/3 innings this season with Durham. The 26-year-old was drafted in the 34th round by the Rays in 2012.
Beckham was hitting just .185 with two home runs and five RBIs for Tampa Bay in 54 at-bats. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 Draft by the Rays.
