Former Rays infielder Tim Beckham was suspended 80 games today by MLB after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
Beckham, now with the Mariners, claimed in a statement he took a product from a trusted source that turned out to be “tainted” with Stanozolol.
Beckham’s career with the Rays was significantly disappointing after they made him the No. 1 overall pick in 2008, bypassing Buster Posey among other players who went on to be much more impactful.
Beckham’s time with the Rays was marred by inconsistent play, injury and a 2012 drug suspension for a second failed test for a "drug of abuse,'' which was reported at the time to be marijuana.
