PORT CHARLOTTE — The Durham Bulls’ 2015 season was one game old when outfielder Mikie Mahtook was called into manager Jared Sandberg’s office. It was there in the visiting clubhouse at Coolray Field, home of the Gwinnett Braves, on a Thursday night in early April when Mahtook was told he was going to the big leagues.
“It was … I can’t even put into the words the emotions I was going through at the time,” Mahtook said. “It was everything I ever dreamed of.”
Could it get better? Yes. Mahtook’s mom and two sisters had traveled to Georgia to see him play.
