ST. PETERSBURG - Christian Arroyo re-joined the Rays Thursday on his 24th birthday and immediately contributed, rapping a pair of doubles and playing well at third base.
"He was outstanding,'' manager Kevin Cash said. "I liked the aggressiveness. Smoked three balls. Tremendous defense at third . Brady (Williams, their Triple-A Durham manager) had said that he was really playing well defensively and I think he had seven or eight homers since he got sent down (in late April). You have to be doing something right and seeing the ball well.
"I was glad that he got up there and I think in his first at-bat he made an out, but he was aggressive.
