ST. PETERSBURG — The ball hung in the air and Logan Forsythe stayed where he was — a few steps from second base — until he knew for sure the ball would land safely in front of Texas center fielder Leonys Martin.

Martin said he knew from the start he did not have a chance to catch James Loney’s bloop single in the ninth inning Sunday of a one-run game.

“But,” Martin said, “I ran as hard as I could to make (Forsythe) think I was going to catch it.”

Forsythe admitted he didn’t get a good read on Martin’s reaction.
