As I noted Tuesday when I highlighted seven position players I'll be watching closely this spring, when it comes to established veteran players, unless there's an injury or something unexpected involved, not much can happen during spring training that will affect our expectations for them during the regular season. This applies to pitchers as well as hitters. Whether they're starters or relievers, productive veteran pitchers know what to do to prepare for the season, and they might not pitch often in March -- or pitch well -- and nothing changes.
As with hitters, there are certain pitchers whose spring performances can be very telling, pitchers who could impact their team's playoff chances but have a level of uncertainty surrounding them.
