NEW YORK — Steven Souza Jr., celebrated his 27th birthday by hitting a pair of home runs to pace the Rays’ power show Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
The Rays hit a season-high five home runs in their 8-1 victory against the New York Yankees.
The Rays also struck out 16 times, making them the first team since 1913 to hit five home runs and strike out at least 15 times in a nine-inning game.
The win gave the Rays a split in the six-game road trip through Boston and New York.
Drew Smyly won for the first time this season with seven solid innings.
