After he left -- following a throng of embraces in the dugout -- he threw a cool-down session in the bullpen.
"He's throwing really well," Team USA manager Jim Leyland told the MLB Network telecast crew during the fourth inning. "So is their guy [left-hander Jose Quintana]. That's two good big league pitchers going at it. This is big league pitching at its best right here."
Quintana was arguably just as impressive, holding Team USA hitless until the sixth. But Colombia doesn't enjoy the wealth of starting arms that Team USA does -- beyond Quintana and Saturday's starter, Julio Teheran -- leaving manager Luis Urueta to work closer to the 65-pitch count.
