Archer makes history in Rays 3-1 victory over Mariners

SEATTLE — Afterwards, the only shirt Chris Archer had in his locker other than the dress shirt he was going to wear on the charter flight home was a blue T-shirt he’s worn since spring training, one with the words “Make History,” printed on the front.

Since he had yet to shower after his work day against the Seattle Mariners, Archer was going with the T-shirt when he met with reporters.

“Maybe it is irony,” Archer said. “Maybe it’s meant to be.”

Archer executed the T-shirt’s message Sunday when he became the first pitcher in major league history to strike out at least 10 batters and not walk any over three consecutive starts during the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 victory at Safeco Field.
