ST. PETERSBURG — It was a change-up, a pitch Chris Archer can throw well but seldom does, that made all the difference Monday night.
It was the change-up, the third club in his bag that added a wrinkle to what the Orioles normally see from Archer.
They’ve shown they can handle his fastball and slider. But a change-up?
That was the difference-maker as Archer changed his fortunes, winning for the first time since the end of August as the Rays beat the Orioles 2-0 in front of 12,996 at Tropicana Field.
The victory snapped a 10-start slump for Archer, in which he was 0-7.
