The Rays placed left-hander Jose Alvarado on family medical emergency leave and recalled Andrew Kittredge from Triple-A Durham prior to their 12:10 p.m. ET game against the Tigers on Wednesday at Tropicana Field.
The 23-year-old Alvarado is 1-3 with a 2.58 ERA with three saves in 38 1/3 innings of relief for Tampa Bay this season. He's recorded 42 strikeouts with 19 walks and finished seven games. He picked up the win while working two scoreless innings against the Tigers on Tuesday.
Kittredge has appeared in 14 games for the Rays this season, his latest coming on July 8 against the Mets at Citi Field.
