Tampa Bay Rays general manager Andrew Friedman might have just started a blood war with the Pittsburgh Pirates thanks to a loaded answer to a simple question.
According to Twitter user Mark S., Friedman was asked why he traded ace David Price to another American League team in the Tigers rather than to the Pirates - a reported contender for the former AL Cy Young Award winner's services right up until the deadline:
Rays GM when asked about Pirates in Price talks and why trade him within the AL "David wanted to be traded to a proven winner". Ouch.
While the Pirates have won more World Series titles in their history than the Tigers (5 to 4), recent history has been a bit kinder to Detroit in light of their three-straight division titles and ALCS appearances.
Regardless, ouch...
Rays/Pirates. Feel the tension.
