Steven Stamkos of Tampa Bay Lightning to have surgery for blood clot near right collarbone and miss 1-3 months

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos will undergo surgery to treat a blood clot in his right arm and is expected to miss one to three months, general manager Steve Yzerman said after the team's 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night.

Stamkos will have the surgery Monday in Tampa, Florida.

"Obviously, this situation is extremely disappointing because I wanted to help my team clinch a playoff spot and prepare for the start of the postseason," Stamkos said in a release. "During my recovery I will do all I can to help my teammates, and I hope to rejoin them soon in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
