The Tampa Bay Lightning drafted defenseman Johnathan MacLeod in the second round, 57th overall, at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The Dracut, Massachusetts, native is in his sophomore season at Boston University.
“He’s a strong kid and is very combative,” Boston University head coach David Quinn said when asked about his play.
Before playing on the collegiate level, MacLeod blossomed for the United States’ U18 team at the 2014 World Junior Championships. He posted two goals and an assist in seven tournament games. As a result, Team USA defeated Finland to secure the Gold Medal.
On top of MacLeod’s physicality, Quinn also complimented other aspects of his game.
