The Lightning High School Hockey league produced a national champion on Monday.
Mitchell captured the USA national combined high school championship with an 8-7 overtime victory against Boulder/Monarch (Colorado) at Ashburn Ice House in Reston, Va. Mitchell won the combined division, which is a team made up of players from different schools.
Zachary Harrison scored the winner on the power play at 10:40 of the overtime, his second goal of the game. Lucas Sowder registered a hat trick and led all players with 32 points in six games. Defenseman Nathan Smith finished with seven points (two goals.
