Lightning's Stamkos says growing pains could benefit Drouin

CALGARY, Alberta — As the Lightning left the Saddledome ice on Monday following practice, the off-ice drama act the team has become was the only topic of conversation.

Already with captain Steven Stamkos’ contract situation hovering over the team, the announcement that former No. 3 overall pick Jonathan Drouin requested a trade adds another element of intrigue to a team that has become the talk of the league for many of the wrong reasons.

Drouin was assigned to Syracuse of the American Hockey League on Saturday and is expected to report to the team for practice today.
