Ali Murdoch has always been a meat and potatoes girl. The fact she now spends her evenings doing “octopus duty” at Amalie Arena likely will keep her that way.
A Bristol, Wisconsin, native, Murdoch is the local ice crew member charged with cleaning up any octopuses that might be thrown onto the ice during this series.
It’s quite an obligation for a first-year crew member. After all, since the tradition first began in 1952, Red Wings fans have been known to litter the ice with octopuses.
Murdoch is well prepared, though. She learned quickly the key to cleaning up an octopus when one was thrown onto the ice during the Red Wings’ final regular-season visit to Amalie Arena last month.
